Chelsea's MBA Journey

BY Nicole Sopkovich   |

Chelsea's journey is an exceptional example of someone that came from a completely different industry and then decided recruitment was the career path they wanted to pursue going forward. With no previous recruitment experience, Chelsea started at MBA as a Temporary Resourcer. MBA management quickly realised what an asset to the team she was, therefore Chelsea was offered a full-time contract as a Recruitment Consultant and has since been promoted to Senior Recruiter in just under four years.

We'll let Chelsea tell you the rest...

What were you doing prior to your start at MBA?

Before joining MBA, my background had been in finance. I then decided to take a gap year to travel the world!

Why did you decide to join MBA?

I joined MBA as I knew Recruitment was a path I really wanted to get into. After my interview, I could see how MBA would invest in their people and offer career development opportunities. As soon as I left the interview, I knew it was a company I would love to be a part of.

What was your training process like?

For my first few weeks, I was shadowing colleagues by listening into calls and researching more about each client we represent. It was extremely thorough, so at the end of each day, I would reflect on what I’d learnt with my manager to ensure I retained all of the information, as there was a lot to learn!

Can you describe your MBA journey?

Since joining MBA nearly 4 years ago as a Temporary Resourcer, I have progressed to Recruitment Consultant and now to Senior Recruiter, where I coach and train new starters. Additionally, I’ve had the pleasure of recruiting for a number of MBA’s key accounts, ranging from Insurance, Finance, Accounting and Automotive which has enabled me to grow personally and professionally.

What does your typical day as a Recruitment Consultant look like?

No two days are the same! I start by meeting with the team to discuss daily outcomes or any challenges we are facing in order to look at resolutions from different perspectives. I then look at my diary and see what I have booked for that day, this normally includes calls with clients and candidates and interviews arranged. I then plan my day by prioritising my roles and approaching candidates directly. My days change throughout, so it is essential that I am responsive and ensure nothing is missed.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part for me is definitely the satisfaction of finding candidates their dream job.

What is the worst part of your job?

Sometimes things do not go the way we had planned. Unfortunately, we cannot control every scenario as much as we can try!

What is the company and team culture like?

MBA is a fast-paced and encouraging working environment. Any objection we face individually, we face as a team.
