Simon's MBA Journey

BY Nicole Sopkovich   |

Simon joined MBA just over three years ago as a Contractor Relationship Manager, his previous experience and 'do whatever it takes' attitude made him a perfect fit for this role and for our company and he continues to prove that every single day.

Simon's unique position in MBA as Contractor Relationship Manager which he works in conjunction with his recent promotion to Onboarding and Compliance Team Leader is vital to our clients, candidates and MBA team members. Even from a distance, as he works remotely, Simon's MBA journey has had such a positive impact on our company.

Here is Simon's MBA Journey, in his own words:

What were you doing prior to your start at MBA?

I had been working in Recruitment for a few years, in RPO and MSP environments, and had an experience in onboarding and compliance for both permanent and contingent workers.

Why'd you decide to join MBA?

I was relocating from Manchester back home to Coventry, and noticed a role that suited my skills from my previous roles, but could also sense there was a huge focus on the candidate’s experience, which is something I have always been passionate about.

What was your training process like?

As my role was originally based on a client site, I spent my first week in the role in Head Office, working closely with Jenny Gill, Head of People & Compliance, who trained me on all of the processes I would need to complete my role. When I started working in the client offices as a sole MBA representative, I knew that I always had the support of the wider team for any questions I may have, despite the distance!

Can you describe your MBA journey?

I started as the Contractor Relationship Manager for one of our key clients, effectively managing the contingent worker population. I act as the representative for both the client, and also the workers we manage. During my time with MBA, there have been many changes in the contingent worker industry, which has also meant that my role has continued to adapt and evolve.

Recently, I have been promoted to Onboarding and Compliance Team Leader, and work this role in conjunction with Contractor Relationship Manager.

What does your typical day as a Contractor Care Manager look like?

A typical day can range from completing background checks and creating documentation for new starters, managing extension conversations and paperwork for existing workers, meetings with the client to keep them updated on any movement with our contingent worker population, and overseeing the timesheet process by running weekly reports.

What is the best part of your job?

I get to speak with different people every single day, and no two days are ever the same. I am passionate about the candidate journey, and it is extremely fulfilling to follow candidates on the journey with MBA, from starting their new role, to when they move on to their next opportunity.

What is the worst part of your job?

Onboarding is so reliant on external factors, such as waiting on references to be returned. It can be tough to keep on top of all the moving components, but it’s so important to keep the candidate and the client informed of the progress.

What is the company and team culture like?

I can honestly say that MBA is a great place to work. Even though I work remotely, I am in contact every day with numerous members of the wider MBA team. I visit the office at least once a month and always feel welcome. Everyone will always knuckle down together and do whatever it takes to help support their colleagues, and provide their own expertise.
